I also love the lily-flowered types, such as ‘Merlot’ and ‘Ballerina’, with their elegant shape and profile; and the Viridiflora tulips, which are almost – with the green flash of colour to their petals – a foliage as well as a flower. They also last longest in the garden and in a vase. But I’ve known all of these for ages. This year I am on a three-pronged quest for new tulips, building on previous experiments.
